UP emerged as a premier agricultural model

As reported by reliable sources, under the guidance of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state is advocating for smart farming, the adoption of modern technologies, and market-oriented policies to enhance farmers’ income and fortify the agricultural sector. The government is striving to position Uttar Pradesh as a premier agricultural model within the nation.

For the year 2047, the state has outlined significant targets aimed at boosting the productivity of food grains, pulses, and oilseeds. It intends to elevate crop intensity to over 250 percent, minimize post-harvest losses to below 4 percent, and increase its contribution to national agricultural exports to more than 15 percent. Additionally, initiatives are in progress to broaden organic farming and encourage crop diversification

Official data shows that between 2017 and 2025, the state recorded steady growth in farm output, with wheat production rising by 16 percent, food grains by 17 percent, oilseeds by 34 percent and pulses by 26 percent. Alongside production, the government has taken steps to connect agriculture with markets and exports to ensure better returns for farmers. In 2024-25, Agricultural exports have increased more than two-fold, reaching around Rs 7,139 crore.

UP has already established itself as a prominent agricultural state, leading the nation in the production of food grains, wheat, potatoes, sugarcane, vegetables, and honey. Its significance in the agricultural sector continues to expand, with the state currently holding the second position in agricultural Gross Value Added (GVA). The GVA of this sector has reached approximately Rs 4.66 lakh crore, representing nearly 15.7 percent of the state’s Gross State Value Added (GSVA).

They further stated that simultaneously, the World Bank-supported UP AGREES project is significantly contributing to the enhancement of agriculture and fisheries in 28 districts of Purvanchal and Bundelkhand. This project, valued at approximately $325 million, aims to elevate farmers’ income, broaden the application of modern technologies, and achieve over 30 percent growth in agricultural production, particularly in underdeveloped areas.

Notably, UP, recognized as one of the leading sugarcane-producing states in India, is advancing with a definitive strategy to revolutionize its agricultural sector into a robust, modern, and export-oriented system. The government has established a long-term objective of transforming the state into a global hub for sustainable and high-value farming by the year 2047.
