Sugar production sees a robust increase
According to data from the Indian Sugar & Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA), till the end of December, 2025, total sugar production across India has reached 118.97 lakh tonne (lt), indicating a robust growth of nearly 25 percent compared to the 95.40 lt produced during the same timeframe last year.
ISMA said that the industry has also experienced a slight increase in active participation, with 504 sugar mills currently operational, up from 492 mills at the same time last season.
The data shows UP has produced 35.86 lt of sugar, reflecting an increase of 3.06 lt or 9 percent higher over the previous year by the end of December. Maharashtra has demonstrated outstanding performance with a higher crush rate, achieving sugar production of 48.61 lt, which represents a significant increase of approximately 62 percent compared to the same period last season. The state currently operates 197 mills, compared to 190 mills that were operational on the same date last year.
Karnataka has also noted an uptick in crushing activity, with sugar production increasing by around 12 percent in comparison to the same period last year.
Reports from key sugarcane regions suggest improved cane yields and enhanced sugar recovery rates relative to last year, showcasing favorable agronomic conditions and more effective crushing operations as the season progresses.
