Russian dairy product exports anticipate surpassing previous records

Recently, during the Third Dairy Industry Leaders Forum held in Moscow, Ilya Ilyushin, the head of the federal center ‘Agroexport’, stated addressing to the participants that by the conclusion of 2025, the export value of Russian dairy products is projected to exceed $500 million.
Even in the absence of December figures from the EAEU, the monetary value of dairy product exports has already surpassed the total for the entire year of 2024. In comparison to the same timeframe in 2024, dairy exports have risen by 13 percent,’ he remarked.
While indicating that the growth anticipated to be bolstered by the execution of investment initiatives and enhancements in productivity, Maxim Borovoy, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, emphasized that the strategic objective of the industry is to elevate milk production to 38.5 million tonne (mt) by 2030.
Borovoy pointed out that the demand for dairy products within Russia continues to rise: ‘Our data indicates that consumption increased by 2 kg per person last year. The ministry’s priorities for the current year are to underscore the importance of maintaining price stability in the dairy market and ensuring adequate profitability for producers.
Ilya Ilyushin indicated that the most notable export growth in 2025 was observed in various categories such as the supply of fermented dairy products and packaged milk rose by 21 percent, cheeses and cottage cheese by 13 percent, condensed milk by 28 percent, and ice cream by 29 percent. The export of dry whey more than doubled. In total, Russian dairy products were exported to nearly 100 countries.
However, Ilyushin pointed out that the majority of exports still go to post-Soviet countries, although further growth is expected through distant foreign markets. He identified China, Algeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Southeast Asian nations as promising avenues.
‘We project the export of Russian dairy products in 2030 to exceed $730 million, nearly one and a half times the level of 2025. The potential for exporting dry dairy products (SMP, SCM, and whey) by 2030 to be over $140 million, which is 2.5 times higher than the 2025 figure, “stated the head.
The director of Soyuzmoloko, Artem Belov, described export as one of the key growth drivers for the industry, highlighting that the global market offers opportunities for rapid expansion of presence. According to FAO forecasts, global milk consumption is expected to rise by 22 percent, or 208 mt, over the next 10 years.
‘Global dairy trade alone is valued at over $100 billion. More than 20% of the milk produced worldwide is involved in foreign economic activity. Russia’s share in this market remains small, at less than 1 percent, indicating our potential,’ remarked Artem Belov.
He further noted that Russia is increasingly promoting exchange-traded dairy products to distant foreign markets. Prior to 2020, the share of such markets in exports was approximately 10 percent, but it is now estimated to be between 15-18 percent and demonstrates a consistent growth trend.
