Kazakhstan’s wheat exports surged to Afghanistan

According to official reports from Kazakhstan, the country has significantly increased its wheat exports to Afghanistan in the last 4 months, solidifying its position as a vital grain supplier in the region. During this timeframe, Afghanistan imported approximately 260,000 tonne of wheat from Kazakhstan, establishing it as one of the primary destinations for Kazakh wheat exports.
The data shows that from September to December, 2025, Kazakhstan exported over 3.9 million tonne (mt) of wheat to global markets. A segment of these shipments was directed to Afghanistan, which has been enhancing its purchases in light of ongoing food security challenges. In comparison to the same timeframe last year, Kazakhstan’s wheat exports to Afghanistan surged by nearly 37 percent. The significant growth was also observed in other markets. The shipments to Uzbekistan rose by 35 percent, increasing from 1.315 mt to 1.774 mt, while exports to Kyrgyzstan more than doubled.
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture, Aidarbek Saparov, stated that the country’s total wheat export capacity is projected at 13 mt. The Minister further noted that Kazakh wheat and wheat products are currently being exported to 45 countries globally, highlighting Kazakhstan’s growing influence in the international grain market.
